In the 1960s, the recent makossa was established and it became the most famous genre in Cameroon. Makossa is a kind of funky dance music which is best known outside Africa for Manu Dibango. In 1972 single soul Makossa was a global hit, outside of Africa Dibango and makossa were only briefly famous but the genre has produced many pan African superstars through the 70s, 80s and 90s, following the Dibango, a wave of musicians electrified makossa in an attempt to making it more accessible outside the country. Another pop composer in 1970s Cameroon was Andre Marie Tala, a blind composer who had a pair of hits with Sikati and Potaksima.
