The state base work orchestras, formerly managed under the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and now operating as different independent body, have played a significant role in performing normal orchestral repertoire for the general public as well as commissioning new works from Australian composers and making sure that works by contemporary international composer are introduced to the people.
