After the independence of Angola came the civil war, which several popular musicians were killed, and those that are alive simply left the country. Also, in the early year of 1980, Angola popular music was sway by Cuban music, particularly in the work of Andre Mingas and brother Rui Mingas Cuban Rumba was popular and was leading across Southern Africa including Angola’s neighbour Zaire (renamed the Democratic Republic of Congo).

The two most popular music in Angola are Humbi and Hummbi which was written by Filipe Mukenga and Mushima. Music is very important to Angola lifestyle and mostly their lyrics of songs are sung from Portuguese, which is spoken mostly in Angola as their first or second language alongside with Bantu language.
