The tarka is a flute that
has its origin from the Andean. It is usually produced of wood; it has 6 finger
holes as well as fipple on the mouth end and free hole on the distant end of
it. The tarka is a block flute that is like a recorder. It is shorter and
angular in shape and requires greater breath to play it, it has darker and more
penetrating sound.

The musical instrument is
of three kinds; the big, medium and the small. Normally, the three variants of
tarka are used together in a big group with all playing the same melody on
three different voices at fixed intervals and accompanied by other percussion
instruments.
