The cajón de rumbas are rhythmic percussion musical instruments. They are made up of wooden boxes. They are in the modalities of the cajón tumbadora, cajón bajo and cajita that are played with hands in the playing of rumba music of Cuba.

These boxes, which arrived to Cuba full of imported cod or another fish, were changed as drums. The musical big boxes were used as ‘tumbadora’ and the small boxes are used as ‘quinto’. The claves were formed with the use of two wooden spoons hit in reverse side of the instrument.
